PURPOSE:  The mission and purpose of the Porsche Club of America-Metro NY Region’s Driver Education Program is to provide a safe, structured and controlled teaching environment in which participants can learn advanced car control techniques.  The Program is designed so that participants can improve their driving abilities and acquire a better understanding of vehicle dynamics and driving safety.  Metro NY Region Driver Education events are not racing, preparation for racing, nor competition of any kind.  No times or placings are recorded and no awards or prizes are received by the participants at Metro NY Region Driver Education events.  Any conduct considered by Metro NY Region to be either unsafe or inconsistent with the spirit or purpose of the Metro NY Region Driver Education Program as stated herein will not be permitted.  The Metro NY Region Driver Education Program is designed to afford participants the opportunity to experience first-hand the capabilities of high performance automobiles in a controlled environment and to acquire skills that will improve their driving abilities.

NEW TO DE?  On the Club website at www.metronypca.org, go to the DE Activities page, select the 'Metro DE Guide' button and download a copy of the “Metro NY PCA Drivers Ed Guide”.  This will give you plenty of information about our events.  We look forward to welcoming you to an event..

Each driver must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid drivers license, PCA membership, a Snell Foundation 1995 or 2000 approved helmet, metal-to-metal seat belts (identical for both passenger & driver), and a 2.5lb fire extinguisher with metal bracket mounted to a metal surface.  Roll bars are required in Cabriolets and Boxsters.  TECH INSPECTION:  Vehicles must be tech inspected by a Metro NY Region or Zone 1 approved repair shop prior to an event. Metro NY allows Instructors to self-tech their own car.  Metro NY requires a signed tech form to be submitted by everyone, including Instructors, at the beginning of each event.  See the website for a list of tech inspection sites.

RESTRICTIONS:  Registration for each event is limited.  All participants are subject to the event organization and safety rules as outlined by the event organizers. Events are open to PORSCHE cars only with a maximum of two drivers per car.  The organizers reserve the right to refuse entry to and/or prohibit participation of any driver.

REGISTRATION Please use On-line registration if possible.  Click on the "Registration" button at the top. Registration forms may be found on the web site www.metronypca.org or in “Porsche Post”.  There are two forms: one to be used for registering for individual events and one for registering several events at once.  Please complete all details on the form – highlighting any details that have changed since last year.  Send the complete application form together with a check, payable to "Metro NY PCA", to the Registrar:

Metro DE Registrar

Shoreham   NY 11786

A cut-off date is set for each event. This will be strictly enforced. The registration must be received by the stated date. The Metro NY Region cannot be responsible for slow delivery by the post office, so plan ahead. Don’t be excluded because you trusted USPS to deliver overnight.

Metro NY uses  email confirmation and reminders for DE events.  These are sent to all participants who provide an email address.  In addition, we email all Novices the Metro DE Guide and are able to manage drivers waitlisted for events more efficiently.  Not only is it less expensive, quicker and more efficient, but also it is a lot less work for the Registrar!

Rather than mailing information to participants, this means that you will receive your confirmation for the events as an email.  About a week or so before the event you will also receive a reminder – just in case you’ve forgotten to get your Porsche tech inspected.  You will also be informed of any changes or additions to the DE program.

The email addresses you provide on the DE application are used solely for Metro NY PCA and DE related communications.

ON-LINE REGISTRATION: Please ease the workload on the Registrar by using the on-line registration facility.  It may be accessed from the DE page at the Metro web site. On-line registration is available to drivers who have participated in previous Metro DE events.  If you haven’t participated in a Metro event, please use a paper application, available in the ‘Post’ and on the web site.  Pay using PayPal when you use on-line registration.

 REGISTRATION FEES AND DISCOUNTS

A
discount is offered for early registration. The event worksheet clearly shows the cutoff date, after which the regular fees apply. Envelopes must be postmarked by the cutoff date in order to qualify for the discount.  After the cutoff date, the registration fee is increased by $50.

INSTRUCTOR FEES ONLY APPLY TO VERIFIED PCA INSTRUCTORS AND MUST COMPLY WITH EARLY REGISTRATION POSTMARK. Late Instructor Registrations, received after the early registration deadline, will be charged at the instructor rate + $50.

REFUNDS:  If you need to cancel an event please inform the Registrar by mail, phone or email.  If this is done on or prior to the registration closing date (the ‘cutoff’ date) you are entitled to receive a full refund. No refunds will be made for cancellations received after the cutoff date.

If you have an email address you may elect to receive your refund as a credit which may be applied to a future Metro DE event.  You will receive an email with a reference number which you may quote on your next application.  Credits are valid for one year.

Drivers without an email address will receive a check.  Please allow several weeks after the event to receive the check.
